Knowing the People Planning: some questions answered
How is KPP different?
the information and results relate to actual people and their needs, not 'planning norms'
    it is bottom-up, not top-down
it produces 'can-do' tasks, not big worries
KPP produces results not intentions - "six people got better housing", NOT, "a new accommodation policy was drafted for consultation"
it's about tuning and adjusting - maintaining a garden not building a pyramid
KPP uses the judgement of those who know
has the power of grassroots agreement.
How does KPP work?
Please see the page: KPP, the basics
What makes KPP adaptable for my purposes:
it's a flexible planning method to explore what is important, now, to you
you can aggregate some or all of the needs for some or all of the people who use your services
it's best to start simply, get some hands-on experience, and improve with practice.
What are the benefits of using KPP?
results for people can be measured
numbers relating to people (these 20) are better than statistics (1%) - they focus action
it shows what you do for people and how it's working for them…
â€¦instead of what you've got and how many times it's used
everyone can see and understand outcomes for people - intentions realised
it has more influence than persistent grumbles
it shows that not all the pits are bottomless and helps settle priorities
there's a regular account of the work done - and a history builds.
Is KPP easy to use!!
yes - do it yourself and be your own experts
no special research skills are required
    it's speedy and responsive
it's flexible and addresses local needs
    you improve with experience!
How soon can we start?
Now, if you like! There's no need for a long preparation, you can start today. It's better if you
know the people - who are the long term users of your service?
know what you want to know about what happens to them
have clinical involvement - or better still leadership
have a stakeholder process to look at the results
and KPP is better because you want to do it, but don't have to!
