Who is David King?
  David's NHS management career began in 1960 and culminated with a long spell as General Manager of Exeter Health Authority. Exeter's old asylums housed patients from most of Devon, but under David were the first in England to close and be replaced by community mental health services.

  In 1989 David moved to New Zealand to run Auckland's health services, before being invited back to the UK to head up the Government's Mental Health Task Force from 1993-1995.

  Now retired, David is a research associate in the Centre for Health Services Research and Policy at the University of Auckland and has at last had the time to find answers to the questions that had been puzzling him!

 
Who is Barry Welsh?
  Barry Welsh has a Psychology degree, a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Services Management and is currently undertaking research that is evaluating the implementation and outcome of knowing the people planning for a management thesis.

  Barry also has extensive experience in agricultural theory (including a Bachelor of Agricultural Science) and practice (including developing a successful owner operator dairy farm).

  Currently Barry is a Senior Advisor (quality) for the New Zealand Ministry of Health Mental Health Directorate.

 
Who is Tony Day?
  Tony Day worked with David as his assistant at Exeter. They again joined forces on the national Mental Health Task Force, where as development manager Tony founded and edited the Grassroots newsletter.

  Tony's NHS career included spells as a computer systems designer and as a community health council secretary. He was also seconded to the Centre for Mental Health Services Development, the Department of Health - to develop the Mental Health Patients' Charter - and the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health.

  Tony became a freelance policy analyst and writer, working mainly in mental health, in 1996.
